There is increasing evidence that unless you are confined to a wheelchair, sitting down for too long can affect your health. Studies have linked inactivity with obesity and Type-2 Diabetes.

Sitting for long periods is believed to slow the metabolism, affecting the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat.

Breaking up the time spent sitting with bouts of light activity such as standing, walking, and stretching will help increase metabolism.

Tricks

Set a reminder to get up after every 30 minutes of sitting. Stand, take a short walk, or just do a few stretches. If possible, use a high table for your desktop or laptop, so that you can work standing up.
